ERP consulting  /  Chicago  /  Since 2014

One team from requirements to production.

Van Field Group is an ERP consultancy. Most of our work is Workday, functional and technical, delivered by the same bench. The rest is everything that happens at the edges, where the platform ends and the business does not.

Workday

Functional and technical
HCM

Functional delivery

Requirements, business process design, and configuration across the full HCM suite, from design through go-live and post-production support.

Benefits

US and international

Plan design, eligibility, and open enrollment through to carrier connectivity, including the integrations that carry the enrollment file when it matters.

Payroll and comp

Configuration

Payroll and Advanced Compensation configuration, built to hold up through a merit cycle and an audit in the same year.

Security

Design and remediation

Role-based and domain security, integration system user and security group architecture, and segregation of duties, including remediation of tenants that drifted years ago.

Reporting

Analytics

Custom reports, BIRT, calculated fields, and Prism Analytics, built so your team can maintain them after we leave.

Integration

Platform connectivity

Studio, Orchestrate, EIB, Core Connectors, RaaS, and event-driven patterns across the full REST and SOAP surface.

How we think about it

Not every problem has a Workday answer.

Configuration is easy to add and expensive to remove. So the first question is whether the problem belongs in Workday, beside it, or nowhere, and we would rather spend time there than on a build that has to be unwound in two years.

Beyond the platform

Where Workday stops
Architecture

Enterprise data

Real-time and event-driven patterns feeding Snowflake, Databricks, and Palantir Foundry, and ERP data exposed to AI agents through Model Context Protocol servers.

Strategy

System selection

Deciding what belongs in the ERP, what belongs beside it, and what should not be bought at all. We have no reseller relationship in any direction.

Legacy

Conversion and archive

Data conversion, legacy ERP archive, and the migration work that surrounds a platform change. Our ERP experience predates Workday and covers the systems it usually replaces.

The firm

Founded 2014

Van Field Group is small on purpose. Engagements are staffed from a standing bench of specialists rather than assembled from whoever is available, and the people who scope the work are the people who do it.

Most engagements run long. Many span a full implementation cycle and continue into post-production support, which means the team that made the design decisions is still there when those decisions get tested.

Where we work

Our clients, not us
01

Defense and advanced technology

Software and hardware companies building for government and national security customers. Engineering headcount that grows faster than the configuration behind it, project and contract cost structures, and security models written to be explained to an auditor.

02

Financial services

Advanced Compensation carrying bonus, equity, and multi-currency plans through a merit cycle, alongside the segregation of duties and access review work that comes with a regulated environment.

03

Public media and mission-driven organizations

Broadcasters, nonprofits, and institutions running lean back offices against complex realities. Grant and program-funded cost allocation, mixed populations of staff, freelance, and union talent, and reporting written for a board rather than a CFO.

04

Communications and professional services

Agencies and advisory firms where people are the product. Billable and project-based structures, utilization and client cost allocation, and small offices spread across many countries, each with its own payroll and statutory benefit rules.

05

Health technology

Organizations whose headcount changes shape faster than their configuration does. Recruiting through to hire, supervisory structures that survive reorganization, and data flowing out to the analytics platform the business already runs on.

06

Retail and consumer health

High-volume hourly workforces at scale. Time tracking, absence, and benefits eligibility across thousands of variable-hour employees, plus the carrier connectivity that has to be right before open enrollment opens.
